Domestic Bliss....

My One True Love has been away on business yet again, but he is on his way home tonight. Yay! So today I just pottered around home doing laundry, cleaning the house, and making a good old fashioned Winter warming comfort dinner of curry chicken on a bed of butter milk mashed potatoes. Then I baked an orange cake for dessert. I'll serve the cake with some homemade warm custard (just the way my husband likes it) and he should be a happy man to be home again!

We have a lot to do today, so let's get started with my trusty old cookbook that I've had since the start of high school. I take this book everywhere with me, even on holidays!

Oh good, I do have just enough apples & oranges to make the curry and a cake!

Diced apples and onions bubbling away in the golden butter....

The ingredients for the curry....

The top dish is a tray of Apricot chicken that I also made to freeze for another night. The bottom dish is the chicken curry for tonight. Yummy! Do you like curry too?

I love good old fashioned cooking....

comfort food...especially in Winter.

Creaming the butter & sugar for the orange cake. I make Barefoot Contessa's orange/lemon cake. It's so moist and delicious! Tonight we'll go with the orange cake as I have a couple of lemons cakes in the freezer. They're wonderful to have on hand in case an unexpected visitor pops over for a cuppa!

Sifted dry ingredients of plain flour, salt, bi-carb soda & baking soda. Wet ingredients of butter milk, orange juice and vanilla. Orange peel freshly zested...

Freshly squeezed orange juice and sugar melted together to pour over the hot cakes as they come out of the oven......oooooh it's GOOD!

I like to do all sorts of different shaped cakes, so tonight we are using a brioche pan for a change...

Powered sugar/icing sugar sprinkled over the top....would you like a slice? There's always enough to share with friends at Jacaranda Cottage!

And you're always welcome......Love Amanda xxx

I'm absolutely coming over for curry & cake. Two of my favorite things. The apricot chicken looks delicious too. Would you share the recipe or is it a family secret?

Just caught up top to bottom. Paris Fifi looks SO CUTE in those pajamas. And thanks for taking me for another ride through the country. I NEVER TIRE of them. Was that a geyser feature on the side of the road (I did a little scanning ... didn't read EVERY word ... just most of them) ... and those cool finds at the thrift store. Lamp shades for $15? That sounds like a deal to me.

So glad you are enjoying your winter weather, and glad hubby gets back tonight to enjoy that fabulous meal you made for him and for us. I'll be at the table for sure. Everything looks delicious!

I'll bring the sparkling apple cider.

Cheers!

My sister makes this orange chiffon cake that was my grandmother's recipe. I bet you'd love it!

I too love curry and homemade cooking in all categories. That's why I can't stand that pompous twit Sandra Lee. Spend a little less time creating your "tablescape" and a little more time on the food!

Your husband is one lucky man!!

Love,
Julie

Good morning, Amanda! I'm so glad you liked my little tea towels. I've been doing needlework all my life and to me it's a very relaxing hobby, so I've pulled out all my little things and working on fabric again. Hope you have a wonderful holiday!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
