Cut & polish!

That's what I've been doing these last few days (besides tending to my Precious Princess who's been really sick with the flu and asthma), I've been cutting and polishing! In other words I've had a big Spring clean. The windows have been thrown wide open, the warm Spring breeze is blowing in, and I'm getting down to the grind stone. I've been ruthless, sorting through cupboards, draws, rooms, even through books and magazines. I had a STACK (they took over most of the book shelves in the study, but hey get behind me ladies, we all have that don't we? Say yes so that I can tell my husband that it's normal! lol) full of decorating magazines, so I decided to go through them and tear out the pages I wanted to keep then organize them into an easy to handle/easy to get at folder (OCD anyone? I am!) I bought a heap of those plastic inserts for the folder then set about putting them into sections like cooking, gardening, craft projects etc. With the decorating pages I divided them into their own sections like living room, laundry, kitchen, bedrooms etc. I even did a "how to" section at the back for my husband for when he does building or reno projects around the house. It took me ages working at it each night, but wow do I feel good now that it's all done! Here is the folder nice and handy in the kitchen hutch sitting on top of some of my most used cook books (that were also sorted through).

Then I set about re-arranging the lounge room and put a little side table next to where I usually sit, and on the table I have some simple sewing items handy for any stitching I have to do. I often sit there at night hand sewing things on to costume pieces for Princess' dance concert costumes, so I thought this was a nice way to have things at hand while still looking pretty. The thrifted soup tureen I got recently now holds some thread, ribbons, sequins etc, and the little round glass lidded container holds spare buttons for an emergency repair. I don't know if you'll all think I'm over the top crazy, but it just makes things easier for me to have things like this organized and ready for easy use.

What about you, do you have any space saving or time saving tips you could pass along? I'm always open to organizational ideas, and would love to hear any that you'd like to share!

Wishing you all a wonderful week! Love Amanda xxx

Good for you, Amanda. I confess that I am a bit of an organization freak. I like to have a designated place for everything.

You did a great job.

On the table in the kitchen. I use a covered blue willow bowl to hold my daily medications. Nearby is a covered aluminum ice bucket with my food supplements.
In the bathroom I keep wash cloths rolled up and placed in a white basket with a handle.

Sounds like you are a busy girl. It is so weird that we are both in different seasons! It's hard to understand that you are in Spring right now! Good for you to get your spring cleaning done. I do something very similar with my magazines. I save way too many, but then I start going through them and I cut out pictures of rooms that give me good ideas and inspiration. You should be proud to get them done!

Hugs, Sharon

P.S. Thank you so much for all your kind comments about my son's wedding! We enjoyed it so very much!

Hi Amanda, I so admire the organized... and I really do try, but I don't think that anyone would call me an organized person. It might be that right brained, left brained thing. Susan

organising is a perpetual activity! I like to tidy cupboards and drawers but even then I forget where things have been 'organised' into!
