A family affair!

Today was crazy, hectic, fun, and hard work......because it was moving day! Not moving day for us exactly, although we did all the moving work! lol My Aunt and Uncle (who are both in their mid-late 70's) have been traveling overseas for the last 18 months, and we offered to store their furniture in our huge shed up the back yard, for them to save them that money (because that's what family do, right? Right!). They have a lovely little home by the sea that they rented out while they were off traveling, and they looked into what it would cost them to hire a storage shed for a year and a half, and it would have cost them an absolute fortune, so we offered to store their furniture here for them while they were away. I am really happy that we were able to do this for them because these two people are the most important people to me outside of my immediate family. So now that they are back home in OZ and their tenants have moved out, it was time to load everything up again and move them back to their little home by the sea! Even though it was hot, hard work and lots of heavy lifting for my husband and I (we didn't want my Aunt & Uncle to lift anything too heavy and hurt themselves, although my Uncle is very stubborn and lifted things he shouldn't...and hurt his back) we still managed to have a wonderful time laughing and joking with them all day long. So what do you do when it's going to be a really full on Saturday?.......

You race down to the bakery to get something sinfully creamy to have over coffee while we plan out our moving strategy......

Then we started to load my Uncle's car and little trailer....

Once my Unlce's little car & trailer were full, we loaded up our truck and big trailer.....and hit the road!

While we were loading from the shed to the trailers we found these wonderful old family photo's. My Aunt (who is one of my Mum's sisters) has had these photo's of her Grandparents (my Great-Grandparents!!) for many, many years. Unfortunately they are a little damaged, but I still think they are beautiful!

My Great-Grandmother, Bridget, was from County Cork, Ireland. She came here as a young newly wed to make a new life for herself & her husband. They settled in Queensland, Australia and had 5 children (one of them was my Nana!). I just love this photo of my Great-Grandmother Bridget, the detail in her outfit is amazing to me!

This is my Great-Grandfather, William. He was originally from Wales, but met his beloved Bridget when his family moved to Ireland. Then once he and his young bride moved to Australia he became a Dairy Farmer. My Nana was born and raised on that very same dairy farm! I can remember when I was a little girl, Nana telling me all sorts of wonderful stories about her life growing up on a farm (and all the hard work everyone had to do too!).

I love this photo of William, I think he looks very handsome and distinguised! Can you believe that this was also the very first time that I had ever even seen a photo of my Great-Grandfather William! I was thrilled to see these photo's!

Then after a long day of moving all my Aunt & Uncle's furniture and helping them unpack it all too, I was very happy that I had thought to get dinner organized early this morning to cook in the crockpot for the day so that tonight we walked in to a lovely hot, traditional and satisfying meal of chicken, carrots, potatoes, onions and beans simmered in a honey mustard sauce. I guess I am just an old fashioned traditional kind of girl because food like this is my favourite!

Now I'm off for a nice long soak in a hot bubble bath to relax my aching muscles, but first I wanted to wish you all a really wonderful weekend with your families too!

Love Amanda xxx

Amanda..J and I just read this post, together. It is wonderful. I loved hearing about your great grandparents and Nana. My many times great grandfather came from Wales, also.

My gosh that coffee cake looks delish. The crockpot chicken dinner does too! Comfort food.

Hope all is well in your corner of the world. We're on our way for our anniversary getaway, today.

Have a lovely weekend.

How sweet of you to store all the furniture for so long. And, then, to help them get moved back into their cottage.
I so enjoyed the great photos of your grandparents...
The cake and the dinner look sooo good.
Thanks for sharing this great post.
love, bj

Hi Amanda! Oh, I just the old photos of your relatives and those beautiful frames. These are things to really cherish, not the frames, but the photos and the stories! lol
I thought that cake was a pumpkin at first - looks very tastey!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)

So nice to help family out, You are correct that is what families DO. I have the same picture frame as your ancesters are in, mine does not have glass any more but it is one of my favorite things. ps I love your blue kitchen, I have you listed as one of my favorite blogs, although I haven't commented much I read often.

What a lovely post. Had a great time visiting your blog space today and seeing what QLD bloggers are up to.

It is great to have photos of your ancestors and know your family stories and how that all brought you to where you are.
