Here are some photo's of her old bedroom. It is a very small room, so we're trying to make the best of a small area until we renovate off the side of the house and add more space. Luckily she always keeps her room absolutely spotless, so it looks nice even though it's small.
Before.....
Yep, still before....
Pink room all emptied and ready for painting...
The painting finally begins! Our daughter said that she wanted to go for a totally different look, more open, airy and fresh. So I chose white (the same white I used in the hallway).
This little table was given to me by my Aunt. She was going to throw it away, but I loved it so much that she gave it to me. It was a very dark chocolate brown, not very pretty, but I loved the shape and thought it would make a great bedside table painted white. You'll see the new look table further on.....
I found this hat stand at the thrift store for $20. It too was a dark chocolate brown....you'll see the new look white hat stand soon!
I found two of these ugly orange mirrors at the thrift store for $2 each. So I bought one for the new bedroom, and one for the hallway. I hope you like the transformations they recieved (I'll show you the hallway mirror tomorrow as I need my husband to hang it for me when he gets home tonight first!)
On the weekend we went to the beachside markets and I bought a pack of 10 Frangipani plaster of paris moulds for our daughter to paint up for her room as she wanted a Frangipani theme for the room. I got this pack of 10 moulds for $5 including the paint kit.
Here are the photo's of the new room.......as you wander around you'll notice the painted table, mirror and hat stand. The mirror was painted white and some of the Frangipani moulds were glued on to it. All done by our daughter. Yay!
We also went and bought a brand new bed and mattress for this room. I hope you can see the detail in the bed frame as it's really beautiful, very pretty and feminine. She loves it! Also, the framed painting above the bed was painted by my very talented mother! Our daughter put in a request to Nana for a Frangipani painting, and she got one! Thank you Nana xxx
These are some shelves I bought at IKEA. Because the room is so small, I didn't think we would be able to fit a dutchess table in here, but our daughter wanted some sort of little table area to hold her jewelry and make up. So I got my husband to attach the bottom shelf at a lower height and added the newly painted mirror, and a new chair from IKEA, and hey presto a little beauty area that doesn't take up any floor space!
The total shelf wall. Top shelf holds books, DVD's and pink DVD player. 2nd shelf needs some pretty baskets to hold misc items, but I'm still looking for just the right ones.....and the little white corner stand was painted by me 7 years ago. It was also a dark brown, so I painted it white and hand painted some fairies, cats, and vine on it for Princess. She still loves it and didn't want it painted over for this re-do.
The new dutchess.....well a space saver version of one anyway!
The newly painted hat stand!
Above the window, which has a new window treatment too....(new white cutains, and new white roller blind) we glued some more of the Frangipani moulds to the wall for a colour lift!
The new bedside table with a small mirror on top...
So there you have it, the long awaited bedroom make over for our very Precious Princess! The total cost for the make over was $850. That includes everything....paint, window treatments, new lighting, bed & mattress, wardrobe(from IKEA), picture frames, hat stand.....etc......everything! Also, in her old room she was allowed to put posters up all over the walls, but this time I bought some pine frames from IKEA for $8 each, painted them white and now she can put her posters in the frames. That way there are just the one set of hook holes in the wall, and she can change the posters easily at any time! Whew, I'm worn out now! I plan to visit you all soon, I've just been tied up trying to get these two rooms finished! Love to you all and hope you're having a wonderful week!...Love Amanda xxx

Wow! That bedroom is so airy and pretty now - truly fit for a princess! I can't believe how much larger the room looks with it's new look. What a talented person you are to see what things would look like after they are painted, and to put them all together in such an inviting way!
Thanks for coming by my blog, too. It was nice to have your visit. We love to go RVing also.
Smiles!
Amanda your Precious Princess' new room is wonderful! I love that mirror and the table makeover, too. It's all beautiful!

Very nice. I love the Frangipani moulds you used. It looks a lot more crisp and clean white. I can't believe she keeps a spotless room. My dd is 16 and I am forever harping on her to clean her room.
I am especially loving that space saving wall! Wow! You have the mad skills knowing how to mount a TV to a wall!!! Excellent use of space!
And what a wonderful gift to be able to see how you want the room in your mind so you can execute your plan. And I know your husband is feeling lucky to have a wife who can bargain shop and find such lovely things for such a good deal. Way to go! I love it all. Very very nice. I'm thinking I am going to steal your poster idea. That's smart.
Oh. And let's not be too hard on the orange mirrors. I love orange you know.
I just listed you on Wonderful World of Weiners as one of my fav blogs. You'd probably enjoy her blog as well. She's very funny and friendly. She's listed on my blog roll. (should have brought you the link. sorry!)

Hi Amanda, Thank you for visiting my beach blog. I am so jealous that you live close to the beach. Oh how I would love to have a little beach cottage. ~ Lynn
Oh my gosh what a fabulous transformation! The room looks like it doubled in size! It is so gorgeous! I'll bet if I showed it to my daughter, she would want hers just like it! How wonderful of her to do her own flowers, too!
Have a lovely weekend!!!
Your little girl is growing up. I remember when our daughter went away from her pink and purple room. I was sad and happy at the same time. You did a wonderful job finding things and making them work for you. I looks great. Hope she enjoys it! Dianntha
My gosh, you have been very busy at Jacaranda Cottage since I last visited! Your makeovers are truly fantastic! You are so clever and resourceful, and talented too. Your daughter's room is quite lovely.
Hi Sweetie....hope you got my email saying Linda from Blue Gate has been having trouble putting a comment on your blog and sending you an email. She wanted to thank you for your sweet comment on her blog and to give you a big Texas "Hi". Linda is a sweetie just like you!
Have the Best of Weekends! Rosie
Amanda, You did a fabulous job. This room looks fit for a queen. That is a cute name for the make-up table, "dutchess table." I have not heard that term before. You make me want to get out the paint and make some much needed changes in my home. I love all the things that you have done. Just lovely!!!
Happy weekend dear Amanda, Kathi
Very pretty, such a nice transformation. My little one chose bubblegum pink for her room and I think she's hankering for a change after three years. The bed you purchased is lovely and I love the bedside table with the mirror. Great work. Have a great weekend sweet Amanda.
Hi Amanda :)
Precious Princess has a beautiful room! I love how fresh and airy it is :) That bed is absolutely darling too. Annie wants a room makeover, but I'm not ready to jump into that until we know what's going on with the house situation. You have given me some great ideas when we do jump into it though ;)
Have a beautiful day!
hugs,
rue
well done! It looks like both you and your daughter put a lot of work into this room! It looks great!
It is so fresh, so feminine, so pretty! You did a wonderful job!
You are so talented and creative.
We are hoping to get Grace a new wardrobe from IKEA later this Summer and will be painting her room as well.
She says she still wants pink, just another shade so we will see!
I love all you have done and I know your sweet daughter appreciates all the work you all did! It is a beautiful room!
Love,
Sue
