A thrifting we will go!

Hi ho the dario a thrifting we will go! Yep that's what I thought this morning when I woke up. I looked out of my bedroom window to see the glorious Winter sun shining, streaming through the leaves of our Poinciana tree, and I knew that the day was too beautiful to be couped up inside! Princess and I hauled our frozen bodies into my truck and off we went! lol

The view I wake up to each morning.....*sigh*

The little wooden tulips were bought from the thrift store for 50cents, but I got them a couple of weeks ago along with the blue & white crocheted doily ($1), and the beautiful little plate was also $1. You would have seen these in the make over photo's from last week, but the little pear shaped glass lidded dish is new. I got that for $1 too. The vase holding the tulips was my Grandmother's, and the crystal candle holders I've had since my 13th birthday.

I thought this plant/bust stand was perfect for the theme of our made over bedroom. It has a tiny chip on the top, but you can't see that from under the little side table. I paid $3 for the floral stand! Bargain.

I fell completely in love with this tiny little house! I like to watch a show on the decorating channel called "Escape to the Country", and this darling little house reminds me of the houses in the English countryside that are on the show. This priceless treasure cost me 50cents! Love it! I also got 5 of the pink and white crocheted doilies for $1 each. I just love them! They remind me of my Grandmother, she was a wonderful crocheter and knitter. Sadly I don't have any of what she made, so these make me think of her each day when I look at them.

I also got these 2 wooden lamps and wooden candle holder. I am going to repaint the 3 of them white to go with our bedroom. The metal stand was just too lovely to pass up either. I can just see it on a table display with glass beads and candles reflecting their light off the glass and metal. I love glass and metal and candles all together. There is something magical about them for me.....*sigh* again. I sigh a lot! lol

Now I have a question for all of you very clever and talented ladies out there. How in the world do I go about recovering the black lamp shade?? It sounds like a simple thing to do, but I've never done that before so I'm not too sure where to start. I would like to recover it with the same pink gingham fabric that we made the cushions out of, and with the lamp base painted white, it should hopefully be really pretty. Suggestions or tips anyone? Just please don't tell me that I have to use a hot glue gun. I tried that once. It wasn't pretty. The hot glue gun and I have agreed to disagree and keep our distance from each other. Nuff said! Now craft glue is a whole nuther story, I love the craft glue! Yep. I do. Can't wait to hear your brilliant advice ladies, and I hope you're all having a truly fabulous week! Love Amanda xxx

out blog hopping. Love your blog.

Don't you just love a good thrift shop trip? Most of them around here are called "antique malls". My husband and I often frequent them on our road trips.

As for recovering your lampshade...how about some kind of iron on sticky stuff (technical term) with your fabric?

Okay, I saw something like this on a show where they recovered a sweet little lamp. Roll your little lamp shade across a piece of paper and as you are rolling, trace along with a pencil, top and bottom of shade, and this will give you a pattern to use the exact size of the shade to cut out your fabric with. You may want to try making up a mock one first with fabric you don't love just in case. When you cut out your pattern on your fabric cut it a little bigger, enough so you can fold over the edges for a clean edge. You could even sew (or glue) a little ribbon or whatever dangly thing you like along the edge of the fabric if you wanted to before you glue it down to your shade. You should be able to use something called Fabric Tac. Great stuff. Perfect for any projects using fabric. I have used it and LOOOOVE it. It sets up quick, easy to work with. You may already have it since you said you love glue projects (just not the deadly glue gun). I feel your pain sista!....I have a scar on my leg to prove it....PAINFUL! I hope this helps. Email me if I made this sound more confusing then it is. Happy Day to You!

Amanda, you always amaze me with all of your projects. I'm sorry I don't know how to tell you to cover your lampshade. Maybe some of that spray on fabric adhesive? And, some kind of trim?

Hi Amanda, beautiful view you have there.

I love all your great thrifting finds.

Try Rhoda, at Southern Hospitality. She has posted a great tutorial on covering a lampshade. It was a couple months ago and should be in her archives.

I use fabric adhesive spay or white craft glue, watered down...

Before you do it though, turn the lamp on and lay your pink checked cloth over the black to make sure the black won't show through....

Penny
