My Own Magnolia's.

I love the movie Steel Magnolias. I love the strength of the characters, and the unconditional love these women share through their friendships. Today I spent the day with some women who remind me of the characters from that movie, my mum and a couple of her sister's...... my own magnolia's. Sitting there listening to them reminisce over days gone by, reliving the tales of their youth, hearing them laugh together, watching them support each other over the sad stories..............I felt honoured and blessed to know these women. To know that vine on which these beautiful magnolias grow, is a part of who I am, a part of who my daughter is............it humbles me. It makes me feel safe and loved. It makes me want to be the best that I can be. It makes me want to wrap these women in my arms forever and never let go. That may not be possible, but I can wrap them in my heart, protecting them there forever with a blanket of memories..............and watering that magnolia vine for future generations with tears wept in the joy of knowing my own, Steel Magnolia's...

Amanda that was a beautiful, beautiful post! So poignant and full of genuine emotion. So well written.

My father has 3 sisters whom I affectionately just call: The Sisters. Unless I'm feeling particularly Practical Magic-like then I refer to them as: The Aunts. I love having them over for brunch. My mother was only 17 when she married my dad and he went off to the army. They lived in an apartment behind my grandparents (dad's side.) So while he was off being GI Joe - she would stay in the house with them. She grew up with my aunts and the 4 of them are very close. They're stories of yesterday are far more interesting happening today!

Love,
Julie

What a lovely post. I too have been blessed with some strong wonderful women in my life. If I can be half what they have been, I'll have accomplished a great deal. You have a very nice blog. I know I'll be back often.
Thanks for welcoming me as a "newbie" to this blog land.

That is so sweet. I know as I have grown in age I love spending time with my moms sisters. They have so much wisdom. I have learned that I am becoming more like the woman that raised me. She has one sister that they even called me because she was a junker too lol. She passed away last year and im so happy for the time we had. Thanks for a sweet post.
I have never made truffels and want to try is your recipe one that you will share?

Oh, Amanda, that was so beautiful! My mother and her only sister had ten years between them, but they were still very close, and my favorite memory of them is seeing them standing together over the stove, coooking some wonderful Italian meal! :)

Thanks for sharing your memories,
xoxo,
Mary

What a wonderful post. I must admit to feeling a little jealous of such relationships. I'm 3,000 miles and an ocean away from my Mum and her sister. I'm very close to my Mum, but as much as I love my Aunt and we have a strong connection between us, it could be so very much more if I lived closer. I'd give anything to be able to hug my Aunt at the moment, and to be there for her, since her son (my cousin) passed away last week.

Treasure those relationships that you have, Amanda. You have what many yearn for.

What a beautiful post Amanda....I know what you mean about sitting and listening...one of my fondest memories is of my grandmother talking about "the old days" with her and her sisters...she is gone now but I truly cherish the stories she told....

Robin

How beautifully written! My mom has two sisters (I have none). I do have a daughter though, and many girl cousins and aunts.

But I've NEVER seen that movie! =O

My mum and her sisters are constantly having tiffs (read major wars) and not speaking to each other (or communicating via me). I only have brothers and my daughter is also an only girl, so I just love hearing about how *normal* sisters relate.

Oh......that is so sweet! What a wonderful tribute to your mother and aunts! I just love to visit with older women and glean, glean, glean from them! You are so blessed to have such neat women in your life! It is wonderful that you realize this and value it and want to pass it on to your own daughter!

Blessings! Sharon
